Visit to Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's Hydraulic Laboratory

On June 10, 2024, a technical visit was organized to the Hydraulic Branch Directorate Laboratory of the Technical Research and Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments. The visit included undergraduate and doctoral students accompanied by Prof. Dr. Can Balas and Prof. Dr. Asu İnan from the Marine and Aquatic Sciences Application and Research Center of Gazi University.

The laboratory features a wave basin that is 30 meters wide, 40 meters long, and 1.2 meters deep, as well as a wave channel that is 0.6 meters wide, 40 meters long, and 1.2 meters deep. In the wave basin, physical model experiments are conducted for structure stability tests for the protection breakwater of the Mersin Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. In the wave channel, physical model experiments for breakwater stability and wave overtopping are carried out as part of the survey and project work for a new port project in the Eastern Black Sea region.

During the visit, Civil Engineer Şükrü Emrah Arıkan and Civil Engineer Dr. Olcay Eğriboyun provided the students with technical information about the experimental processes and ongoing studies at the laboratory.
