As the Marine and Aquatic Sciences Application and Research Center (DENAM) of Gazi University, a technical visit was organized on 15 May 2025 to the Hydraulics Branch Directorate Laboratory of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM), Department of Technical Research and Quality Management, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Asu İnan and attended by undergraduate and PhD students.
The laboratory features a wave basin 30 m wide, 40 m long, and 1.2 m deep, as well as a wave flume 0.6 m wide, 40 m long, and 1.2 m deep. In the wave basin, physical model experiments are conducted for structural stability tests of the protective breakwater of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Mersin. In the wave flume, physical model experiments on breakwater stability and wave overtopping are carried out within the scope of survey and design works for a new port project in the Eastern Black Sea region. Civil Engineer Dr. Olcay Eğriboyun provided technical briefings to our students on the experimental procedures and ongoing studies.
